Heimtextil 2024

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany— January 12, 2024 — New contacts with decision-makers, global business opportunities and worldwide streams of visitors: Heimtextil 2024 ended with 46,000 visitors1 from around 130 nations and 2,838 exhibitors from 60 nations with 25 per cent growth. With a plus in visitors, the show overcame difficult travel conditions due to nationwide rail strikes and regional demonstrations. The response from international buyers to the quality and variety of the new Carpets & Rugs product segment was overwhelming. In numerous talks, tours and workshops, Heimtextil as well focused on two of the most important key topics of the coming decades: sustainable production and action as well as artificial intelligence. At the leading trade fair for home and contract textiles, transformations could be experienced more intensively than ever before.

With intercontinental strength, Heimtextil 2024 laid the foundation for a record year for Messe Frankfurt. 46,000 buyers from around 130 nations took the opportunity to participate in the global textile market — from upholstery and decorative fabrics, bed and bathroom textiles, mattresses, functional textiles and carpets to wallpapers, outdoor fabrics, artificial leather, curtains, fibres, yarns, sleeping systems and decorative cushions. Despite nationwide rail strikes, this edition recorded a plus in visitor numbers and, with 2,838 exhibitors from 60 nations, a 25 per cent increase in exhibitor numbers compared to the previous year’s event: “Heimtextil ends with overwhelming participation. The increase in space, exhibitors and visitors in 2024 makes the following clear: the leading trade fair for home and contract textiles remains on course for growth – and sets new standards for a sustainable and AI-driven textile industry”, says Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt.

Outstanding intercontinentality: participation grows nationally and internationally

Heimtextil achieved an increase in the level of internationality on the exhibitor side to 95 per cent. The top ten exhibiting countries were China, India, Turkey, Pakistan, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain and the Netherlands. There was an increase in the exhibitor numbers from Belgium, Bulgaria, China, India, Japan, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, the USA and Egypt. On the visitor side, more visitors came from China, Germany, India, Japan, Croatia, Macedonia, Pakistan, Slovakia and Cyprus. The number of German trade visitors increased by around ten per cent.

Significant increase in satisfaction and visitor quality

In 2024, visitor satisfaction rose to an average of 93 per cent both nationally and internationally – particularly with the breadth and depth of the offering. Among German trade visitors, overall satisfaction rose by seven percentage points to 88 per cent. Over 90 per cent of all visitors achieved their trade fair goals. Exhibitors were also impressed by the increased visitor quality and buying competence: the proportion of top decision-makers among buyers rose by six percentage points to 78 per cent. Around 80 per cent of exhibitors achieved their trade fair goals.

Brilliant start for new Carpets & Rugs product segment

The launch of the new Carpets & Rugs segment was a complete success. For the first time, the global carpet industry presented together in one hall, including numerous international market leaders who exhibited in Frankfurt for the first time or after a long time – with overwhelming satisfaction:

“For our debut here in Frankfurt, we deliberately presented our entire collection, which turned out to be the right strategy. The stand was well attended throughout and we made many new global contacts – from Europe to overseas, from Asia to Scandinavia,” said Katrien Vandenbroucke, CEO of Ragolle Rugs, one of Belgium’s leading brands.

“We came back because we saw potential in the new concept. And I have to say, we were more than pleasantly surprised,” summarises Raghav Gupta, Director of E-Commerce at the Indian company The Rug Republic, which stands for high-quality handmade rugs.

The wish for a new joint appearance came from the industry – and Frankfurt was convincing. Exhibitors such as the Egyptian Oriental Weavers Group are looking to the future: “We are completely convinced by the new concept. The hall has turned out beautifully from the very start, a perfect platform for our industry. Now it’s time to take it forward together. In any case, we already know that we will be at Carpets & Rugs in 2025 – and with a significantly larger stand,” says Ahmed El Gamal, Export Sales Manager of OWG subsidiary Mac Carpet.

From AI in textile product design to scalable sustainable solutions

Never before have transformations such as artificial intelligence and sustainability been so intensively at the center of Heimtextil and presented effective levers for a future-oriented approach to key technology. For the first time in 2024, the trade fair provided fascinating insights into the textile application of artificial intelligence and the use of AI-controlled sorting to refine recycled textile waste into new yarns. In the trend space, visitors’ textile design ideas were also brought to life at interactive stations using tools such as ChatGPT-4 and Midjourney.

In addition, Heimtextil once again made state-of-the-art sustainable production and action tangible. One of the main points of contact were the Heimtextil Trends with New Sensitivity: the concept focused on the ongoing transformation of the textile industry and presented numerous market-ready and scalable solutions. One example was the company Ever Dye, whose self-developed color pigments enable dyeing at room temperature. Variant 3D, on the other hand, offers AI-driven knitting software that can be used to produce even complex shapes such as lampshades without creating patterns. The Econogy program offered further central content formats, with Finder, Talks, Tours and the Econogy Hub demonstrating all the versatility of circular approaches, the relevance of certificates and possible applications for textile materials. The exhibitors listed in the Finder contributed to the holistic experience of sustainability:

“We have met many customers and are very happy with Heimtextil 2024. Almost all of our important business partners are here. Sustainability is a topic that is noticeably changing. People used to talk about recycling, but today it is being taken up as a holistic approach that extends from renewable energies deep into the processes to the raw materials and processing methods,” said Mevlut Baydar, chief sales officer, Vanelli Tekstil San.

“At Heimtextil 2024, we were able to present our new collections in an eye-catching way as part of the DecoTeam. Sustainability plays an important role for the Alfred Apelt GmbH. We are delighted that we were listed in the Econogy Finder at Heimtextil as a supplier of sustainable products,” said Sebastian Ihling, Sales Manager and Business Development at Alfred Apelt GmbH.

Strong response to textile range of bed, bathroom and sleep systems

From bedding, bed linen and bathroom textiles to mattresses and sleep systems – the broad Smart Bedding range for all forms of retail as well as the brands and private label excellence in the Bed & Bath segment met with a strong response:

“We are very satisfied and happy to be back at Heimtextil with the Herbert Neumeyer Group. Our concept of the three-sided open stand as a communicative concept has paid off. The exchange with our national and international customers is very important to us. We absolutely achieved this goal at Heimtextil and did so in a pleasant, informal, feel-good atmosphere on our stand. This enabled us to establish ourselves as a permanent focal point in the hall,” said Markus Ertel, managing director, Heinrich Häussling GmbH & Co.

“In a nutshell: Heimtextil has always been the guarantee of international strength and the global market for us,”said Roeland Smits, managing director, Essenza Home.

“We traveled here with many confirmed customer appointments and were also able to make new contacts. We were very pleasantly surprised by the numerous hospitality buyers who showed great interest in our high quality products and manufacturing processes – Heimtextil gave us access to the right markets,” said Tânia Lima, marketing manager, Lameirinho – Indústria Têxtil.

In 2024, the focus was once again on high-quality knowledge for the bed retail and hotel industry: international experts shared best practices, e.g. on the design of bedrooms and hotel rooms or the use of artificial intelligence in sleep analysis.

Asian Selection & Excellence: impressive range of high-quality large volumes

In the Asian Excellence & Selection halls, trade buyers of medium and large volumes found export-experienced partners and a unique range of high-quality manufactured textiles. The suppliers were very satisfied with the quality of the visitors and were able to open up new markets and contacts:

“We have been taking part in Heimtextil for 16 years and are very satisfied. The quality of visitors has increased again this year. We were able to do more order business. Our strongest markets are the UK, USA and Europe,” said Nishant Kumar Singh, Export sales manager, GM Syntex.

“What is noticeable this year is that, in addition to Europe and the USA, more visitors from the Middle East are here. We see great potential for our products here and believe that this market could become very relevant in the future,” said Muzzammil Kasumbi, senior general manager, Al-Karam Textile Mills.

International, innovative and sustainable: the offering for the contract business

The Interior.Architecture.Hospitality program at Heimtextil was more extensive and international than ever and brought architects and hospitality experts together with suppliers for the contract business. Whether focusing on health and care, outdoor, new work or sustainability — international manufacturers presented their functional innovations for a wide range of applications.

“Heimtextil 2024 was a successful start to the new business year for us. The Trevira CS brand was able to present itself to an international audience together with 17 top customers on a large joint stand. The sustainability topics such as fibres, yarns and fabrics obtained in various recycling processes, including chemical recycling, met with great visitor interest,” explained Anke Vollenbröker, director Marketing & Business Development Trevira CS at Indorama Ventures Fibres Germany.

In the LIBRARY, visitors were inspired by selected functional textiles. Highlights included a flame-retardant wallpaper, dirt-repellent upholstery fabric and light-resistant leather. The contract range was complemented by the Fibres & Yarns area for decorative and upholstery fabrics. In 2024, the preliminary stage was larger than before.

Outlook for 2025: partnership with Studio Urquiola announced

For 2025, Heimtextil is announcing a partnership with one of the most important and influential international design studios: Studio Urquiola. A pioneering installation is planned for the upcoming Heimtextil 2025, which will enable an immersive and unique design experience. With this collaboration, the Milan-based design studio and the leading trade fair for home and contract textiles are emphasizing their joint commitment to innovation, sustainability and design in the entire textile industry.

Waking up is also not so hard if you start the day with supremely soft towels made with Naia Renew: quick drying and fresher longer, sustainable without compromising on quality.

Naia™ Loungewear Bedding

Together, we make circularity a reality.

Eastman’s Naia Renew team believes in the power of innovation. That’s why collaborators are so important to make sustainable, circular solutions possible for the home textiles industry. WestPoint Home®, North Home, Huafang, Alkaram, and Ozanteks Tekstil San. ve Tic. A.S. are just some of the worldwide partners that at Heimtextil 2024 showcase soft, quick-drying towels and sustainable bedding that’s silky and gentle on the skin, made possible through Naia Renew staple fiber and the patented molecular recycling technology behind it.

Create value from waste.

Produced from 60 percent sustainably sourced wood pulp and 40 percent certified waste materials*, Naia Renew staple fiber is available at scale and can be blended with other sustainable fibers. Eastman transforms waste materials that are difficult to recycle — which would otherwise not have an end- of-life option — into biodegradable fibers through its patented carbon renewal technology. This is one of Eastman’s molecular recycling technologies that breaks materials down into basic molecular building blocks, assuring end materials are indistinguishable from those made from traditional sources in quality, performance, or appearance. The recycling process supports a circular economy — making the most of natural resources by creating end-of-life solutions for waste to reduce, reuse and recycle materials. This keeps waste out of landfills and incinerators while reducing carbon footprints and preserving natural resources, the carbon footprint of Naia Renew fiber is measurably reduced over its life cycle**, and — even though the fibers are made with hard-to-recycle materials — Naia Renew is certified biodegradable and compostable.

Sustainability is everyone’s responsibility.

Plus, Eastman’s process prioritizes safe and environmentally sound use of chemicals and sustainable wood pulp sourcing. Naia provides its partners with full transparency and responsibility from tree to fiber, being FSC and PEFC certified, supporting the reforestation projects with SOS Mata Atlantica in Brazil, and having recently been awarded once again the Canopy Dark Green Shirt as per Canopy Hot Button 2023 with 30 buttons.

Naia Renew has always had a strong sustainability and circularity story, and Eastman’s bold sustainability goals include having 50 percent of all its product made with Naia Renew by 2025. The company also aims to lower the greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint of the current Naia portfolio by 40 percent by 2030. Circularity is the cornerstone of this mission. “With Eastman’s molecular recycling technology, we’re solving a problem with waste, plastics, stuff that cannot be mechanically recycled and that would otherwise be probably destined for landfill and incineration,” said Chad Doub, global segment market manager, casual wear & home, Eastman.

*Naia™ Renew recycled content is achieved by allocation of recycled waste material using GRS certified mass balance process.

** As compared to conventional Naia™ products. LCA third-party reviewed by Quantis. The current REC holdings for Naia™ Renew are wind.

Heimtextil Opens With More Than 2,800 Exhibitors And A Panel Discussion Spotlighting Artificial Intelligence In Design And Textile Product Development https://www.textileworld.com/textile-world/2024/01/heimtextil-opens-with-more-than-2800-exhibitors-and-a-panel-discussion-spotlighting-artificial-intelligence-in-design-and-textile-product-development/ Tue, 09 Jan 2024 16:40:49 +0000 https://www.textileworld.com/?p=91665 FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany — January 9, 2024 — With more than 2,800 exhibitors from 60 countries and a 95-percent level of internationality, this year’s Heimtextil continues to grow. At a panel discussion during the opening press conference, the leading trade fair for home and contract textiles put the spotlight on the significance of artificial intelligence (AI). How is AI speeding up the design process? Which tried and tested processes have already been introduced in the home textiles sector? What measures are necessary to prevent copyright infringements? Experts discussed a variety of ideas and solutions — from tool combinations to integration in corporate guidelines.

With more than 2,800 exhibitors from 60 countries and a 95-percent level of internationality, Heimtextil 2024 marks the beginning of the new trade-fair year. And, with a 25-percent increase in the number of exhibitors compared to the last edition, the leading trade fair for home and contract textiles continues to grow across all product segments and attract many different nations. “Our trade-fair brands are back and more resilient than ever before. Moreover, they offer small to medium sized companies in particular a high level of international stability. Despite a gloomy economic backdrop, Heimtextil continues to expand and offer a market overview of the latest global trends in the home and contract textile sector”, said Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, in his opening statement.

Heimtextil 2024

At the opening press conference, panel participants Anja Bisgaard Gaede, founder of the Spott trends & business agency, Danny Richman, AI consultant and inventor of the AI‑based Fabric Genie design app, and Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies of Messe Frankfurt, discussed the potential of artificial intelligence for textile product design. The discussion was chaired by Alexandra Bohn, Style Content Director of F.A.Z. Quarterly.

Artificial intelligence in textile product design

ChatGPT, Midjourney, Dallee: powerful tools for text, image and design generation have been very easily accessible for companies and private individuals since 2023. Today, they are a fixed part of everyday life and are leading to enduring changes in working processes. The panel discussion focused on how artificial intelligence is speeding up creative processes, enabling the rapid production of designs and transcending time‑consuming drawing processes on computers. Moreover, AI offers recommendations for material choices — based on specific criteria and the desired properties of the final product, whether for sustainability or in the contract business.

Heimtextil 2024: trade fairs as aids to transformation

One of the key roles played by Heimtextil is the investment in knowledge and the exchange of information with the aim of bringing transformations to life. Olaf Schmidt underscored the rapid growth of AI and explained why Messe Frankfurt is actively focusing on AI and bringing together international experts in this edition of Heimtextil, with a panel discussion and workshops in the Heimtextil Trend Space: “AI is fundamentally redefining the economy, markets and industries. As trade-fair experts, we know how to aid transformation efforts and reduce levels of complexity. With the global home textiles industry at Heimtextil in Frankfurt, now is the optimum time to spotlight the potential of artificial intelligence”, said Olaf Schmidt. The strength of the global Texpertise Network is also evident in this context: the Network embraces over 50 textile trade fairs in 12 countries and aids the exchange of information about artificial intelligence between many different markets along the textile value chain.

Increasing the potential of AI in textile design: easy and inexpensive

In his keynote address, Danny Richman presented a tried and tested aid: Fabric Genie, an AI design application for online shops. Users upload images of their room and describe their design requirements. The AI then generates proposals from which users can choose the design wanted. In his address, Richman also referred to the public’s reaction to the ability of AI to produce unique textile designs. “AI is superior to humans in terms of its ability to spot patterns in data. At the same time, this potential is easy and inexpensive for companies to take advantage of. Thanks to AI, it is not difficult to generate backend codes or to integrate custom-made applications via APIs”, said Danny Richman.

Artificial intelligence at the Heimtextil Trend Space

Anja Bisgaard Gaede looked at how companies can get started with AI and which aspects they should take account of during implementation. In this connection, she discussed not only technical questions but also the composition of corporate guidelines and protection against copyright infringements. Attention was also paid to ways in which AI is being used for textile design, as well as its limits. Gaede explained the importance of suitable prompts and distinguished between effective and less effective commands. Another focus was on combining the AI tools currently available. “It is time to forge ahead with KI. But with caution and with an eye to what is required to be successful in this. Hybrid machine and human interaction as well as collective intelligence are component parts of tomorrow’s workflows,” said Anja Bisgaard Gaede.

She also offered a preview of the AI applications and workshops in the Heimtextil Trend Space where visitors can experience and test artificial intelligence and augmented reality up close. Thanks to the AI-Image-Creator, they have the opportunity to generate unique textile works of art using a variety of prompts. Parallel to this, another tool offers valuable factual knowledge in the field of text-based learning.

Heimtextil 2024: even more textile innovations, materials and design

Worldwide business contacts and the place-to-be for the international textile interior-design sector — this year, Heimtextil brings textile innovations, materials, interior design and trends to life more intensively and in an even greater variety than ever before.

On a total of 17 levels, retailers, wholesalers, designers, furniture and bedding specialists, interior designers, interior decorators, architects, hotel designers and many other decision-makers can be sure of finding the broadest and deepest range of home, household and contract textiles: from decorative furniture fabrics to bedrooms and bathroom textiles, not to mention functional textiles, wallpapers, carpets, curtains and sun-protection systems.

The leading international trade fair for home and contract textiles has added two new halls for 2024. The first is Hall 5.1 for the new Carpets & Rugs product segment where 100 global suppliers have rolled out their latest products and design highlights for their first joint presentation in Frankfurt am Main. The broad spectrum to be seen stretches from hand and machine woven carpets to dirt-absorbing runners. The second supplementary hall has been opened this year for the global sourcing segment where private label excellence meets volume products – with a great range of high-quality industrial and artisan household textiles (Halls: 10.0 to 10.4) and home textiles (Halls 6.0, 5.0 and 6.1).

Beyond a range of products unparalleled worldwide, the global meeting place for the sector is once again distinguished by an indispensable visitor and content programme, which includes the Heimtextil Trends 24/25. Under the headline theme of New Sensitivity, they reveal a new sensitivity for the future via three compelling categories ‘plant-based’ ‘technological’ and ‘bio-engineered’.

The Interior.Architecture.Hospitality programme stands for the latest developments in the contract sector while the FINDER lists exhibitors with corresponding products. Additionally, experts guide visitors to selected exhibitors and present highlights on ‘Health & Care’, ‘Outdoor’, ‘Sustainability & Climate’ and ‘New Work’ within the framework of the Heimtextil TALKS & TOURS. In the LIBRARY, visitors will find a presentation of functional textiles curated by an expert jury.

For the first time in 2024, all relevant knowledge and product offerings on the main topic of sustainability can be found under the heading Econogy – from Econogy Talks to the Econogy Finder, an expert-checked overview of certified exhibitors with sustainable products. Other components of the Econogy offering include the Econogy Hub, the platform for seal providers and certifiers, and the one-hour Econogy Tours.

This year, the focus is once again on high-grade knowledge content for the specialist bed trade and the hotel industry: at the Heimtextil Sleep & More Conference in Hall 11.0, international sleep experts share their insights and best practices – from bedroom design and the expectations of Generation Z on hotel accommodation to the use of artificial intelligence for professional sleep analysis.

In 2024, the curated Interior.Architecture.Hospitality LIBRARY presents innovative functional textiles from selected exhibitors, including Edmund Bell, Futura Leathers, Marburger Tapetenfabrik, Proneem, Textaafoam or Vanelli Tekstil. The material library focuses on the following properties: flame-retardant, sound-absorbing, lightfast, antimicrobial, dirt-repellent and scrub-resistant. A large number of companies presented their products to the renowned expert jury, which includes Gerhard Sperling (German Home Textile Industry association), Jasmin Grego (GREGO Jasmin Grego & Stephanie Kühnle Architektur) and Felix Diener (Marburger Tapetenfabrik).

Function meets innovation meets design: the jury members agreed on the remarkably high quality of the submissions: “As the challenges in architecture increase, so do the demands on textile solutions. This makes it all the more important to me that the innovations from Heimtextil exhibitors continue to inspire me”, reports Jasmin Grego from the jury meeting, which took place in Frankfurt am Main at the end of November 2023. Her jury colleague Gerhard Sperling adds: “The technological developments of functional textiles have taken on an impressive dynamic in recent years, which the submissions for the Interior.Architecture. Hospitality LIBRARY 2024 have once again confirmed. It was not easy for us to make a selection, but in the end, we were able to present a result that really reflects the new state of the art for functional textiles.”

Felix Diener emphasized the special added value of the LIBRARY for Heimtextil visitors: “I generally welcome the fact that this material library is also available online. But in order to be able to judge the design quality, especially in terms of haptics, structures or designs, it is essential to experience textiles live. The LIBRARY is also irreplaceable for this.” On the boulevard in hall 4.0, the curated material library presents pioneering functional textiles for the contract business. In the LIBRARY TOURS, the three jury members will personally guide through their selection.

Knowledge formats reflect the future

The Interior.Architecture.Hospitality formats at Heimtextil focus explicitly on the special needs of the contract sector. “We are observing two strong trends that are leading to an increased need for information and networking in the contract sector: On the one hand, the requirements for the design of hotels, public buildings, care facilities, restaurants or offices are increasing in terms of sustainability and legal requirements are also playing an increasing role in the selection of suitable textiles. On the other hand, modern textiles are becoming more and more efficient and are therefore also taking on new key functions such as sound insulation, fire protection and hygiene. Both developments are reflected in our Interior.Architecture.Hospitality programme”, says Bettina Bär, Show Director Heimtextil. The programme includes customised knowledge and networking formats, for which Messe Frankfurt has been able to attract numerous renowned thought leaders. In 2024, the programme will be expanded and become even more international. The focus topics “Health & Care”, “Outdoor”, “Sustainability & Climate” and “New Work” will be the common thread running through all days.

The detailed Interior.Architecture.Hospitality programme is currently available in the event calendar.

Heimtextil 2024: Fully Booked Carpets & Rugs Hall With High Growth In Suppliers Of Machine-Woven Carpets https://www.textileworld.com/textile-world/2023/11/heimtextil-2024-fully-booked-carpets-rugs-hall-with-high-growth-in-suppliers-of-machine-woven-carpets/ Mon, 27 Nov 2023 17:21:23 +0000 https://www.textileworld.com/?p=90249 FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany — November 27, 2023 — The global carpet industry is on the move — in the direction of Frankfurt. The new Carpets & Rugs hall at Heimtextil now boasts around 100 manufacturers and brands, including a strong increase in suppliers of machine-woven carpets such as Merinos Hali, Oriental Weavers Group, Ragolle Rugs, Universal XXI, Verbatex and the Belgian association Fedustria and its members. With the high response, the exhibiting companies are sending out clear signals for the new platform, where they will also present sustainable concepts alongside their new products.

New designs, pioneering product developments and major industry trends are the focus of the new Carpets & Rugs Hall 5.1, which has been fully booked since the last wave of registrations in the fall. The latest increase in exhibitors comes primarily from the machine-woven carpet sector. At the forefront are market-leading suppliers from Belgium – one of the most traditional textile countries that stands for sophisticated quality in the carpet industry. Ragolle Rugs, Verbatex and the Fedustria association and its members are just some of the new entrants. Other global brands such as the top player from Turkey Merinos Hali San and Universal XXI, Spain’s largest retailer and manufacturer, are also sending out clear signals for Heimtextil’s ambitious plans: “With Carpets & Rugs, we are establishing a fixed annual date for the industry. This is why it was crucial for us right from the start to showcase the diverse range within the fitted carpet segment and to attain a well-balanced mix of products. We’re delighted that we managed to accomplish this so effectively from the beginning,” said Bettina Bär, director, Heimtextil.

Global meeting place for trends and design

From the industry’s point of view, Heimtextil’s USP as a global platform for trends and design is particularly convincing. Banu Kepekci, managing director of Merinos’ sales subsidiary Medipa, emphasized: “As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of machine-woven carpets, we are open to new platforms with serious potential. Heimtextil in Frankfurt has historically been a household name for the carpet industry. All color and design trends of tomorrow are presented here. We can therefore ideally show our existing and future customers that we have already recognized these trends and implemented them in our new products.”

The Oriental Weavers Group is also planning to exhibit a diverse range of products at Heimtextil, including traditional, modern and contemporary styles. Rashad Ibrahim, Export manager of OWG subsidiary Mac Carpet, sees great added value for trade visitors: “The concept of the segment is very special for us as manufacturers as well as for buyers. It enables us to present our entire carpet range in one place. This makes it easier for interested parties to compare our various products. For buyers, Carpets & Rugs is therefore a one-stop shop for all their carpet needs.”

In addition, Carpets & Rugs is ideally integrated into the overall Heimtextil offering via the centrally located Hall 5.1. Whether DIY store, furniture store, carpet retailer or concept store: trade visitors to Heimtextil 2024 will benefit from the entire spectrum of textile interior design — from yarns and fabrics to finished products such as bed linen, blankets, cushions, curtains, wallpaper and carpets for every need.

Megatrend sustainability drives the carpet industry

In addition to new products and product development, the megatrend of sustainability in particular is driving the carpet industry. Companies are investing noticeably in concepts. Banu Kepekci reported: “Our carpets are made partly from recycled PET bottles and partly from our own recycled polyester yarn. We have also switched our packaging lines to polybags made from recycled material and started installing photovoltaic systems on our warehouses and production halls. These reduce our carbon footprint by up to 50 percent.”

Across all manufacturing countries, the United Nations’ SDGs are becoming the focus of the industry, with an increasing number of companies aligning their sustainability strategies with them. Rashad Ibrahim from the Oriental Weavers Group explained: “Our products are known for their high quality, beautiful design and competitive prices. We are committed to sustainable production practices and only use environmentally friendly materials.” To promote SDG 12 “Sustainable consumption and production patterns”, for example, the company has implemented several measures, including effective waste management based on the 3R principle (reduce-reuse-recycle).

Global contact point for all qualities

Sustainability, design, quality and variety: at Heimtextil 2024, Hall 5.1 will be an essential stop for anyone interested in the entire range of fitted carpets: from handmade and custom-made qualities to machine-made woven carpets and dirt-absorbing mats and runners.

India is the focus nation in the area of hand-woven carpets. In addition to the diversity of Indian craftsmanship, the presentation also reflects the focus on sustainability and CSR. In 2024, companies including Heritage Overseas, Mittal International, The Rug Republic, Vini Decor, Rugs Inc, Rugs in Style and the Indian association Carpet Export Promotion Council will be exhibiting here. Many well-known Indian names can also be found among the manufacturers of rugs and floor mats. These include Classic Coir Factory, Floor Decor, Fibre World and Tufko International.

In addition to the aforementioned companies Ragolle Rugs, Verbatex, Merinos Hali and the Oriental Weavers Group (Oriental Weavers, Mac Carpet, Egyptian Fibres Company), other global brands such as Nikotex Carpets from Greece and the Italian manufacturers Fini Cop and Royaltex represent the range of machine-woven carpets.

Heimtextil 2024

At Heimtextil from January 9 to 12, 2024, more than 2,600 manufacturers and brands offer a concentrated and therefore efficient market overview of the global trends in the home and contract textiles industry. In addition to the globally unique range of exhibitors, the worldwide industry meeting place will once again score points this year with indispensable highlights: from Heimtextil Trends 24/25 to the visitor and content programs Interior.Architecture.Hospitality and SLEEP to the focus on sustainability, which now bears the new title ‘Econogy’. Heimtextil University Contest: Making Young Talents Globally Visible https://www.textileworld.com/textile-world/2023/11/heimtextil-university-contest-making-young-talents-globally-visible/ Tue, 07 Nov 2023 16:57:17 +0000 https://www.textileworld.com/?p=89529 FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany — November 7, 2023 — Unusual materials, functional concepts and fabrics with emotional value: The University Contest gives young talents the unique opportunity to present design concepts at Heimtextil. The participants can give free rein to their creativity in conception and implementation.

From works of double interpretation to modular tufted carpets and the exploration of textiles as a potential memory: Each year students from design universities around the world have the chance to submit their latest and most unusual designs and have their concepts evaluated by a selected expert jury based on a set of criteria. “As trade fair organizer, it is important for us to invest in knowledge transfer. Because creativity must be thought of holistically. The industry needs young and unconventional approaches, which we want to promote and develop with our University Contest format,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt.

Three finalists exhibit their projects

This year, among the 28 works submitted, three outstanding artists will be given the unique opportunity to present their work free of charge and exclusively at Heimtextil 2024 – and to represent their university. From January 9 to 12 2024, the winners will have the chance to network on an international level and make valuable business contacts thanks to their own exhibition stand in Hall 3.0 in the New & Next area. The entire global industry also benefits from fresh ideas and creative minds that take new paths in thinking and develop marketable ideas.

Creative visions: The successful projects of the University Contest 2023

From unconventional pattern dimensions to functional modular elements and fabrics as a means of communication – three projects with fundamentally different approaches that convinced the jury with their original concepts.

Winner Rebecca Milautzcki describes her work, titled Below the pattern, as follows: “The ambiguity of the work lies in the regulated development scheme and the four defined pattern dimensions that form an aesthetic, constructed formulation of ambiguity. It is enacted through the combination of translucency, materiality and three-dimensionality of the bonding structures.” In her master’s degree in Textile Art / Textile Design, Rebecca Milautzcki developed this project in collaboration with the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau.

In addition to the black and white representation, there is also a very colorful and functional design, developed by Tasja Videmšek: “In my project Home textiles inspired by Bauhaus I focused on modularity of products, developing a modular tufted rug which can be freely assembled into different compositions depending on the needs of the space. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement, several design areas were explored, preserving the vision of the movement, and placing it in an environment of a contemporary home”, Videmšek explains her project. She is studying Textile and Fashion Design at the University of Ljubljana and was also able to develop the result as part of her Master’s degree.

Svenja Bremen, Master’s graduate in Fashion Design / Costume Design / Textile Design at HAW Hamburg, is the third winner of the contest. She commented on her project as follows: “Soft memories is a design research project in which I explored textiles as a potential memory. It was especially important to me to find a way to embed personal memories into the fabrics to enhance their value and promote respectful interaction. I want the textiles to be much more than mere fabrics; they serve as powerful means of communication, carriers of meaning, and memory.”

Hall 3.0 offers comprehensive further information on the projects as well as the opportunity to exchange with the young talents.

Heimtextil 2024 On Course For Growth With Expanded Range And Realignment Of Sustainability Formats https://www.textileworld.com/textile-world/2023/10/heimtextil-2024-on-course-for-growth-with-expanded-range-and-realignment-of-sustainability-formats/ Mon, 23 Oct 2023 16:55:48 +0000 https://www.textileworld.com/?p=88959 FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany — October 23, 2023 — Heimtextil 2024 shines with strong national and global demand across all product segments. More than 2,600 exhibitors present their new products in Frankfurt am Main. The global trade fair for home and contract textiles also forms the launch of Econogy, a realignment of sustainable formats in the global Texpertise Network. Econogy standardizes the evaluation criteria of all Messe Frankfurt textile events and creates cross-fair transparency for resource-saving products and exhibitors.

Heimtextil 2023

New international contacts, inspiring business encounters and intensive networking: Heimtextil 2024 records strong registration figures across all product segments. With over 2,600 exhibitors participating, demand exceeds the number of exhibitors at the previous event. “Heimtextil provides a bundled and therefore efficient market overview of all global trends in the home and contract textiles industry on a central platform over four days. In 2024, we are pleased to be able to intensify this experience with the launch of the new Carpets & Rugs product segment and an increased number of exhibitors,” said Olaf Schmidt, vice president, Textiles & Textile Technologies.

New year, new business

Heimtextil 2024 will be expanded by two new halls: Hall 5.1 for the new Carpets & Rugs product segment and Hall 10.4 for Asian Selection exhibitors in the home textiles segment. Hall 3, which will serve as a creative hub for the Heimtextil Trends 24/25 and exhibitors from the wall decoration, textile design and textile technology segments will also be reopened. In addition, the new Carpets & Rugs product segment, the realignment of the sustainable event formats under the title “Econogy” and the expanded range in the Fibers & Yarns section will provide fresh business impulses.

Promising start: Carpets & Rugs

Heimtextil 2024 is expanding its portfolio with the new Carpets & Rugs product segment. Located exclusively in the new Hall 5.1, it showcases fitted, handmade and custom-made carpets, machine-made woven carpets, mats and dirt-absorbing carpets, as well as rugs and runners. Carpets are traditionally an integral part of Heimtextil, presented in various halls. Starting in 2024, this offering will be permanently bundled at the request of the industry. The segment is aimed at international wholesalers, furniture and home furnishing stores, consumer markets, DIY and home improvement stores, specialist retailers and garden centers. More than 90 exhibitors will participate in Carpets & Rugs, including many first-time exhibitors. The positive resonance comes from a variety of nations. Commitments have been received among others from Bangladesh, Belgium, China, Egypt, Greece, India, Italy and Turkey. Exhibitors include Carpet Export Promotion Council, Fini Coop, Heritage Overseas, Merinos Hali San, Nikotex, Oriental Weavers Group, Ragolle, Royaltex, Rug Republic and Rugs in Style.

Strong presence: Asian Excellence & Asian Selection

For “Asian Excellence” and “Asian Selection”, both the house textiles (10.0-10.4) and home textiles (6.0, 5.0, 6.1) segments have a strong presence at Heimtextil 2024. Quality in all quantities meets private label excellence here. To exhibit in the Asian Excellence halls on levels 6.1 and 10.2, an independent panel of experts selects high-quality producers. The evaluation includes questions about workmanship, color concept, stand construction, quality and materials.

The top 4 exhibiting nations of Asian Excellence and Asian Selection are China/Hong Kong, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Among others, D Decor, G. M. Fabrics, G. M. Syntex, Grasim Jana Seva Trust from India and Karupannya Rangpur from Bangladesh will be present in Hall 6. In addition, key market players such as Adamjee Textile Mills, Al-Karam Textile Mills, Export Promotion Council of Handicrafts, Gul Ahmed Textile Mills, Handloom Export Promotion Council, Indo Count Industries, Kamal, Kanodia Global, Mittal International, Premiere Fine Linens, Sadaqat, Towellers Limited, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Trident and Union Fabrics are also participating.

Econogy: Realignment of sustainability activities

At Heimtextil 2024, a realignment of all sustainable formats of the worldwide Texpertise Network will be launched with Econogy. Econogy standardizes the evaluation criteria of all Messe Frankfurt textile events for sustainability and clarifies the holistic connection between economy and ecology.

The Econogy offering at Heimtextil includes the Econogy Finder. The directory helps visitors find certified suppliers. Since many years, Heimtextil exhibitors have the opportunity to have sustainability checks carried out in order to be listed in special directories. In the future, these checks will be harmonized across all textile fairs of Messe Frankfurt. Econogy thus creates transparency and comparability across trade fairs with regard to criteria used to select resource-saving products and exhibitors. In cooperation with independent external sustainability experts, the current status of recognized seals and certificates are included and the SDGs are also integrated into the checks.

Other components of the Econogy offering are the Econogy Hub – the platform for seal providers and certifiers – and the one-hour Econogy Tours. The tours are led by an independent consultant and offer an intensive exchange between visitors, exhibitors and experts. And the Econogy Talks enable advanced training and knowledge transfer in numerous conference and lecture formats on the latest green textile innovations.

In close cooperation with the UN Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network, Messe Frankfurt’s Texpertise Network has been promoting the visibility of the Sustainable Development Goals at all Messe Frankfurt textile fairs worldwide since 2019. The very first Texpertise SDG Report, published this summer, summarizes all milestones of the SDG actions so far.

Heimtextil Trends 24/25: “New Sensitivity

The Heimtextil Trends have been forming the heart of Heimtextil for many years. They translate megatrends into textile visions. A visit to the Heimtextil Trends is a must for all textile professionals who are constantly expanding their knowledge of textile materials.

Under the overarching theme of “New Sensitivity,” textile transformation is the focus of the Heimtextil Trends 24/25, with three approaches showing ways to a more sensitive world of textiles: plant-based production of textiles, supporting textile circularity through technology, and the bio-engineered use of natural ingredients. In addition, the Future Materials curate regenerative materials and designs.

Building on the Materials Manifesto, the Heimtextil Trends are carefully designed to be low-waste and environmentally conscious. Only local, eco-friendly or borrowed materials are used in each stand design.

Marketplace for the contract business: Interior.Architecture.Hospitality

Under the title “Interior.Architecture.Hospitality”, Heimtextil covers the global range of functional contract textiles. International manufacturers and suppliers of special furnishing solutions meet interior designers, architects, planners and interior decorators from all over the world.

The offering extends over the entire trade fair. The centerpiece is Hall 4.0, where the Interior.Architecture.Hospitality LIBRARY presents functional textiles curated and selected by a jury. In addition, interested visitors will gain deeper insights during the LIBRARY tours offered by the LIBRARY curators.

Back in Hall 3, Heimtextil offers the largest and most international range of wallpaper manufacturers, from decorative over paintable and technical wallpapers to fiberglass and digital print wallpapers. In the “Bed & Bath” area in Hall 12, visitors find the latest bedding designs from suppliers such as Felpinter, Lameirinho, and Nile Linen Group, as well as premium terry products amon others from Mundotextil Industrias Texteis or Ozanteks on hall level 12.1.
